Maintenance Services

 

FACILITIES OPERATIONS

Facilities Operations performs the role of Maintenance Planning and Facilities Maintenance. Facilities Operations is responsible for:

  • Statutory maintenance activities e.g. fire systems, lifts, water treatment, etc
  • Corrective maintenance activities e.g. blocked toilets, leaking roofs, faulty locks, etc
  • Preventative maintenance activities e.g. routine services for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, etc
  • Planned maintenance activities e.g. roof replacements, refurbishments, etc.
  • Small Works and Conversions e.g. refitting office and laboratory spaces to modern standards
  • Signage e.g. traffic signage, directional signage, information signage, etc
  • Electrical tagging and testing e.g. laboratory equipment, office equipment, appliances, etc

Facilities Operations is located at the University Maintenance Building #45A on the corner of Sullivan’s Creek Road and Biology Place.

Maintenance Planning

The Manager, Maintenance Planning is responsible to the Manager Facilities Operations for:

  • Strategic and routine maintenance planning
  • Campus technical services (Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Building Management Systems, Facilities Audits and Buildings)
  • Small works & conversions

Facilities Maintenance

The Manager, Facilities Maintenance is Duncan Taylor. Duncan can be contacted on telephone number 02-6125 4711 or email Duncan.Taylor@anu.edu.au

The Manager, Facilities Maintenance is responsible to the Manager Facilities Operations for:

  • Statutory maintenance activities e.g. fire systems, lifts, water treatment, etc.
  • Corrective maintenance activities e.g. blocked toilets, leaking roofs, faulty locks, etc.
  • Preventative maintenance activities e.g. routine services for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, etc.
  • Building Management systems - monitoring and control of heating, cooling and ventilation systems and energy management e.g. switching systems on and off, maintaining building temperatures, and monitoring energy consumption, etc.
  • Signage e.g. traffic and parking signage, directional signage, information signage, internal office directories, etc.
  • Electrical tagging and testing e.g. laboratory equipment, office equipment, appliances, etc.

Other Services

Facilities Operations also provide a number of other services such as:

  • Manufacture custom made furniture and shelving
  • Dispose of surplus furniture, equipment, etc
  • Put up pin boards
  • Repair chairs and desks
  • Install extra power points

CLEANING SERVICES 

Barry-Hughes

Barry Hughes is coordinator of building cleaning services. The cleaning coordinator can be contacted on telephone number (02) 6125 0111 or email: fs.building.cleaning@anu.edu.au



GARDENS AND GROUNDS SECTION

The Gardens and Grounds section is located at Building 64A on Balmain Crescent. Gardens and Grounds provide a range of grounds maintenance and landscaping services on campus, including the maintenance of roads, footpaths and carparks.

Reporting Gardens and Grounds Problems

General grounds problems are to be reported to the CSU Helpdesk on 6125 4000 or by email:
Gardens.Grounds@anu.edu.au

  • General grounds problems include:
  • Fallen trees
  • Broken irrigation systems
  • Removal of graffiti
  • Removal of posters
  • Broken tree branches
  • Broken glass on the roads or pathways

Urgent grounds problems should be reported directly to the Manager, Gardens and Grounds on (02) 6125 5434 or the Assistant Grounds Manager on (02) 6125 8969.

When reporting problems please ensure that you provide the following information:

  • name and telephone number of a contact officer
  • nature of the problem
  • location of the problem

SECURITY

The Security Unit is located on the Ground Floor in the John Yencken Building on Sullivans Creek Road. The Unit is responsible for providing the following services on campus:
  • Management of the Lost and Found Property Office (6125 2251) press 2 after message
  • Management of the electronic security access system (monitoring, maintenance and new works)
  • Issuing electronic access cards
  • Providing site escorts for staff and students
  • Conducting security patrols of the site
  • Conducting physical security checks of buildings
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Monitoring the Fire Board and monitoring Building Management Systems (ie cooling/heating)
  • Issuing of Parking Infringement Notices
  • Coordinating the campus after hours Unisafe bus service
  • Operating after hours switchboard
  • Out of hours contact for the Division of Information helpdesk
  • Installation and maintenance of parking and traffic signs.

The Security Unit is staffed 24 hours and can be contacted on

All phone calls to and from ANU Security are recorded for security purposes.

 

TRANSPORT & PARKING ADMINISTRATION OFFICE

The Transport & Parking Administration Office is located on the Ground Floor in the foyer of the John Yencken Building. The Unit is responsible for:

  • The production and issue of parking permits
  • Providing information on campus parking services
  • The management of Parking Infringement Notices

The Transport & Parking Office is staffed during normal business hours (9am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday) and is also open at lunchtimes. The contact telephone number is (02) 6125 3649 .  All calls to and from the Transport and Parking Office are recoreded for security puproses.  Emails can be sent to: Parking@anu.edu.au

Alex-Chryss

ENGINEERING SERVICES

The Engineering Services Section is located on the First Floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road. The Section is responsible for providing a variety of Mechanical and Electrical consultancy services for the University.

Solomon Elijah

The Manager, Engineering Services is Solomon Elijah, who can be contacted on telephone number (02) 6125 5899 or email: Solomon.Elijah@anu.edu.au

Solomon is also the current Chairman of the Division's Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee and a member of the ANU's Recombinant DNA Monitoring Committee.

Jim is the current Chairman of the ANU's OHS Electric Safety Sub-Committee.

FIRE SAFETY 

Mark-Pritchard

The Fire & Safety Officer is Mark Pritchard, who can be contacted on telephone number (02) 6125 9717 or email: Mark.Pritchard@anu.edu.au

 


The Fire Safety Officer is located within the ANU Security Unit on the Ground Floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road. This Officer is responsible for:

  • Monitoring and inspection of the upgrading of fire safety systems
  • Conducting statutory fire safety reviews of buildings
  • Conducting Fire Warden and other training for staff
  • Liaison with ACTFB in relation to the ANU fire monitoring systems with ANU Security.

The Officer may also provide specialist advice and risk analysis prior to the installation of fire safety systems.



FINANCE

The Finance Section is located in the John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road. The Section is responsible for the:

  • processing of invoices, purchasing orders and contracts 
  • administration of invoices for utilities services (ie. electricity and gas)
  • developing, monitoring and providing advice on the Division's budget and other financial matters

CLIENT SERVICES UNIT

The Client Services Unit is located in the University Maintenance building on Sullivans Creek Road, adjacent to the John Yencken Building.

The Unit provides the following services:

  • Client assistance (both internal and external clients) on the division activities
  • Personnel support services (eg. process leave applications, pay queries, compensation applications, recruiting new staff etc)
  • Provides administrative support to the Minor Works Unit and University Maintenance.

PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION SECTION

The Planning and Construction Section is responsible for the planning and construction of Major Capital Projects. The Section is located on the third Floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road.

Major Capital Projects Group

The Major Capital Projects Group reports to the Senior Planning and Construction Manager.  Project Coordinators are responsible for the coordination of ANU's Major Capital Projects.

BUSINESS SYSTEMS & QUALITY ASSURANCE UNIT

The Business Systems & Quality Assurance Unit is located on the ground floor, University Maintenance Building, Sullivans Creek Road. The Unit is responsible for coordinating business solutions for projects as well as managing the local area network, IT systems used within the Division and liaising with external IT groups on campus.

BUSINESS SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Business Support Systems is located on the second floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road.

Business Support Systems has responsibility within the FS Division for configuring and maintaining the local area network infrastructure - including computers, printers and video conferencing equipment, resolving networking, computing and printing problems, purchasing of IT equipment, installing software and managing software licenses, creating users’ network/email accounts and managing the associated account passwords, providing local support for Tree Maintenance and Parking and Pdatabases, maintaining backups of systems and data and advising on and IT security.

DRAWING OFFICE AND PLAN REGISTRY

The Drawing Office and Plan Registry are located on the Second Floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road.

The Drawing Office provides a range of building and site drawing services, while the Plan Registry holds copies of drawings for a large number of the buildings and building services on campus.

The Supervisor, Drawing Office and Plan Registry is Paul Sjoberg, who may be contacted on telephone number (02) 6125 3812 or email: drawing.office@anu.edu.au



ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP

The environment group is located on the Ground Floor, John Yencken Building, Sullivans Creek Road.

The Environmental Group runs the University's environmental management program, ANUgreen. The program works to reduce the University's environmental impact, including the following areas:

  • Waste & Recycling
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Transport
